We are Thankful

Today, I am Thank-full.

I serve a God that is loving and just.

My husband and I cheerfully manage this beast called “Mountain People Organics” that has consumed our lives.  During the last year, we have grown and changed and are excited to see what another year brings our way.

geo and I

As a family, we spend every day together.  My homeschooled kids have had a thorough year of Entrepreneur Classes.   They are healthy and growing in wisdom and stature daily.  We have learned to love all kinds of folks.  My eldest son is healthy and productive and has grown into an incredible man.  We are a healthy family, we eat well, we have clean water to drink, we are warm and secure in our homes.

We are helping to build a Community that is kinder and more caring of one another, because we are actually getting to know one another.

We live in a land where freedom actually means something.  I am free to build my business.  The success of the last year would not have been possible in many places around the globe.  I am free to attend the church of my choice, or not. I am free to criticize the government and speak out on the wrongs I see.   I am free to educate my children as I think necessary.

I have been saved by Grace.  I am loved.  I am free.

Be Thank-full.  Be a Blessing today!

It’s About Honor

My Uncle, Phillip Hatler, passed away last week. He was a WWII Vet, so as a Veteran myself, I wanted to show him proper honor. The building our MarketPlace is located, is an old National Guard Armory (hence the new name “The Farmory”).  I took custody of his flag and flew it at half-staff for a day. I was honored. Here is our Irregular Flag-folding ceremony, for those interested. Be   Blessed.

Season of Abundance

Having a Farmers Market in November, in Tuolumne County, might be a new thing, but let me show you the ABUNDANCE and COLOR of our last few  Market days.

Bulk Bucket Shopping

I believe everyone should eat a simpler, healthier diet.  Folks have moved away from eating Real Food, to eating processed food-like products.  The grocery stores are filled with tens of thousands of different food products.  But FOOD is actually pretty simple.  If you have a well-stocked pantry, you can prepare nutrient-dense food anytime.

If you have been into The Farmory, you know I like jars.  Jars are really handy-dandy.  You can organize anything.

Bulk in jars  Dollar-Store-Beautiful-Pantry

Start collecting some that are matchy-matchy if you are that type.  I’m not.  I use gallon jars, mostly.  All shapes and sizes.  Stacked one on top of the other, depending on what I used last.  I have lots of jars.  I  fill my jars from the Bulk Buckets. Grains, Nuts, Beans, Flours, Sweets, Dried Fruit, Oil, Maple Syrup.  From my jars I can make almost anything.

Why do I want YOU to shop the Buckets?  Because I know that a significant portion of your grocery money is going into packaging and labeling and handling and advertising and “Product-Placement” of food-like products.  Don’t be fooled and trapped by the slick marketing.

Only 1 example is needed.  Oatmeal.   You could buy Instant Oats in a handy-dandy little package.  All seasoned up, ready to add water for a quick breakfast. You can buy, today from Amazon, Quaker Oats, Variety Pack.  52 little packages of assorted flavors for $16.69.   In total, you get 4 pounds 7 ounces of oatmeal.  A great bargain at .32 cents per package. Right?

Not so much.   Added sodium is usually about 200mg.  Average 12 grams of added sugar. Not to mention the Preservatives, Additives, Natural Flavors, etc.  It’s not organic, though they do have an organic line, and Quaker is owned by PepsiCo.

You can buy Organic regular oats from the Bulk Buckets for $1.20 per pound.  Add a bit of maple syrup, raw milk, and  butter, and you now have a delicious, nutritious, quick breakfast that nourishes your body.  The argument that you can’t afford Organics is simply not true.  Perhaps you can’t afford the fancy pre-packaged organics sold in the Grocery Stores, but you can certainly afford to stock your pantry from the Bulk Buckets.

Start by deciding NOT to buy so many “convenience” or food-like items.   Simplify your diet.  Replace processed foods with Real Food. Read the ingredients.  Once you decide not to consume any particular ingredient, don’t buy anything with that ingredient.  I started with High Fructose Corn Syrup.  Never bought another thing with that in it.  Pretty soon, I was ready to eliminate more ingredients.  As you clean out your cupboards, and your gut, things get better.  Your taste buds adapt.  Your sugar cravings get more manageable.  (Yes, sugar is as addictive as cocaine).  Pretty soon, you are soaking your grains and making home-made bread or your own special sauerkraut.  Good for you!

The only caveat I will add is this.  If you are really super sensitive to gluten, I would not shop the Buckets because of cross-contamination.  You can however, still buy from my Buckets.  Just ask me to help you get your product from a newly-opened bag, using a really clean scoop.  I will help you.  Or you can buy directly from Azure Standard.  Either way, you can still make bulk shopping work for you.

I want you to shop in the Bulk Buckets at the Farmory because  I love to witness the transformation of health and I love when folks discover how easy and affordable Real Food actually is to prepare.

See you at The Farmory!

One Day at the Farmory

Saturday was a yummy day at MPO.  I started with Bacon Lover’s Quiche for lunch.

MPO 001

Organic, local eggs (soy-free, of course) bacon and assorted roasted veggies.  As I walked around the MarketPlace, I noticed Louella’s Toffee had really cute treats for Halloween.

MPO 013 MPO 012

Yes, they are organic Rice Crispie Treats.  Made with her organic, home-made marshmallows.  Really!

Movin’ on.  Elizabeth’s Artisan Foods had Braided Brioches (organic, of course) and other delectable items.

MPO 020 MPO 005 MPO 019

I needed a little snack, so I sampled the Macaroni and Cheese from The Farmory Plate.  Yes, Meal 2 of the day.

MPO 010

Yes, we do actually put sauerkraut on most everything!  Organic Quinoa Mac n’ Cheese on a bed of spinach, topped with MPO Kraut.

For a little exercise, I carried the 13 POUND sweet potato, grown by Tyson Hill Farms, around for a bit.

MPO 006

Had a visit with Sweet Nancy…

MPO 021

Caught Daisy Voigt of Sugar Pine Realty, hard at work…

Time for dessert?  Absolutely!  Persimmon Tart (Raw, Organic, Vegan, Gluten-Free….DELICIOUS) or Three-Milk Cake, smothered in Pineapple and Whipped Cream!  Amazing.  A few  Tyson Hill grapes to finish and cleanse the palette.

Our most colorful addition to the MarketPlace is certainly High Sierra Tie-Dye.

MPO 035 MPO 004

The tea of the day was Pine-Needle Tea with Hibiscus and Rose Hips.  I thought we could all use some Vitamin C.

Think I am kidding?  I really ate all that in one day.  I shared some with my husband, but mostly I was just really well nourished.  And best of all, I got up the next day one pound LESS 🙂  Real Food, really nourishes body and soul!

Sold Out

It was a great week at The Farmory.  We introduced “The Farmory Plate”  to the MarketPlace and we ate lots of great food.  The problem was that I could never find a food vendor willing to serve all organic, nutrient dense, real food. So we created it ourselves.

Mason Jar Salads, Mac n’ Cheese, Tacos, Sloppy Joes, Salmon Salad Sandwiches, Tortilla-Wrapped Organic Hot Dogs, Eat Your Veggies Soup, Fruit Tarts, Raw Chocolate Coconut Silk Pie.  Yum!  The menu will always be changing, depending on the season and the Chef.  Of course, we garnish most everything with Sauerkraut!  Available to eat at the Farmory, or take home.  We want to provide nourishing, real food at an affordable price.

The seasons are gradually changing and we are anticipating the closing of the Sonora Farmers Market after next Saturday.  It will be wonderful for us to still have access to Farmers growing fresh, local produce all winter, as we will stay open all year.

We have been in the building for almost 1 year.  We moved into the old National Guard Armory in December, 2013.  We have worked hard to rescue and old, quirky, mostly empty building with no working bathrooms, no heat, no running water or kitchen.   I think we are on the right track.  I know we have picked up lots of new neighbors that have no idea where we suddenly “appeared” from.  Welcome to the Community!   Those who have walked the path this last year with us, thanks for sticking it out.  We are going in the right direction.

We have plans for many things, but time and budget must be considered.   My primary focus is, and must always be, my family first.  The work will get done; the Food Forest will get planted, the brick-oven will get built, the walls will get painted, the signs will get better, the floors will get swept and mopped, the building will be filled with the right vendors, the vendors will settle into the perfect space, and we will keep nourishing our families with healthy, nourishing food.

From the time God gave  me a vision of what this space could be, until now, I have been blessed.  Thanks for sharing the adventure with us!

Be Blessed today!
